School Leader
In the schools, Elaine has been a volunteer or leader in:
- VEX Robotics – Helped start the VEX Robotics program at Lakeside Middle School in 2011. At this time, the school did not have a teacher sponsor, robot or any funds for the team. The team was able to raise over $5000 through a community fund-raising campaign and to recruit a teacher sponsor (Mr. Smart). This money allowed for the formation of multiple robotics teams in the first year and created a fund that helped fund future teams. The LMS program became very popular and successful, winning a VEX World Championship in 2016.
- FLL Robotics – Helped start and co-coached a championship FLL Robotics team at Haw Creek Elementary.
- Science Olympiad – Parent Volunteer at Haw Creek Elementary and Lakeside Middle School.
- Battle of the Books – Parent Volunteer for a championship Haw Creek Elementary team.
